Praying for our students through the year - day 21 (U) Understanding

Wow! The 1st half of the first 9 weeks of school has ended. The 6th week of school is beginningToday we are praying for understanding, Understanding has two parts: 1) the ability to learn, comprehend, and make decisions and 2) being sympathetic, tolerant, or wise towards people. The first is about gaining knowledge  - whether it be of the Bible, or at school, or work. We should ask God to help us understand; especially what His Word says and how to apply it to our lives. The second part of understanding is how we treat others; we should show them Christ-like love and try to see their point of view. We should try to relate to what is going on in their lives; having compassion.

Proverbs 18:2 says “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion”.

Don’t be selfish about having it “your way”, listen to others and be kind. Godly Character is more important that getting it “our way” all the time.

Proverbs 2:1-6 says “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding”.

Wisdom and understanding come from God, however to obtain it, we must seek it. His Word reveals it, but we must read His Word if we want to gain it. True understanding is of God and we can’t create it by our own efforts. We have to seek it, want it, and search for it. It doesn’t come easy, nothing we treasure does. Once we obtain it, we must always try to use it and be understanding toward others. Thank our Heavenly Father for making understanding and wisdom available to us. Pray He will help each of us and our children study more and earnestly seek understanding. Also, pray we will all grow in understanding toward others and show compassion and mercy to all.

Praying for our students through the year - day 8 (H) Humility

According to the dictionary, HUMILITY is: freedom from pride or arrogance: the quality or state of being humble. Biblical humility goes hand in hand with being submissive or ready to conform to authority, obedient and meek. This type attitude allows us to create peace and have unity. Pray that your children develop humility. Pray that they are never so prideful and puffed up that they cannot accept correction. Pray that they never think their opinions are always right and always better than others around them. This type of thinking will never help in creating unity in the body of Christ. While we don't want our children on the other end of the spectrum, either, where they bow down to the world and others around them. They must truly be in the Word to know what it says so they will know when and how to stand. We were bought with a price...the blood of Christ, therefore we should serve Him alone. Who do we teach our children to please...the world around them or Christ? What do our actions show them is the most important? What are we truly worshiping? Do we need to pray for humility in our own lives as well? Pray our children will humbly seek to please Christ each and every day of their lives. We need to teach them to love God and obey Him, above everything and everyone. We need not try to keep up with our friends, or whatever is the latest trend to keep them in the popular crowd...remember we are in this world and not of it...
For real do we need more "scrunchies, metal straws, save the turtles" and such things now days "sksksk and i oop oop"...(and I don't even have daughters and I hear about this stuff---if you are clueless be thankful and don't lose brain cells by googling it...girls and their trends now days struggling to fit in.)
Instead pray for your kids to have a right ATTITUDE that will not hurt other kids, to be BOLD in their belief in Christ and sharing it, to have COURAGE & DISCERNMENT about when and what to say that is the best thing at the right time with ENTHUSIASM. Pray they will be FRIENDLY and GENEROUS.  Then they will be on the right track to biblical HUMILITY! When we humble ourselves we have the same mindset as Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He came to seek and save the lost. He humbled himself and became obedient, even unto death on a cross. (see Luke 19:10 and Philippians 2:7-8)

"5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you" 1 Peter 5:5-6

"For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think..." Romans 12:3a
